Hamilton: pleasantly surprised with dominated Friday practice

Dominated Lewis Hamilton says that, pleasantly surprised with Friday both practice session. The Brit was 0.449 seconds quicker than his team-mate Nico Rosberg and nearly a second clear of Daniel Ricciardo’s Red Bull in third.

“It felt pretty bad in the morning but we made some changes and the afternoon was pretty good,” Hamilton said after evening session.

“I was pleasantly surprised – today has gone well.”

“It’s always important, as it’s very difficult to overtake here. Hamilton added

“We’ll do everything to get as high as possible. But the race is most important and looking after the tyres.”

He also admits that, he has been surprised by how long he could make the medium tyres last during practice.

“They didn’t seem so bad. When they told me I had to do 14 laps on the option tyre I was like ‘you’re crazy, that’s not going to happen’ but I think I did more than that. It’s surprisingly a lot better.”

But he stopped short from predicting a two-stop race on Sunday.

“I don’t know. It’s not impossible. I’ve not really thought about it.”
