Hamilton finishes quickest in first practice for the Spanish GP

Lewis Hamilton retained fastest lap-time; he manages to put three sectors together to go quickest by a remarkable seven tenths of a second. “The rear tyres are really taking a beating,” he says via team radio during the final stage of the session.

McLaren’s Jenson Button and Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo remain second and third, just ahead of local hero Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso. Nico Rosberg. Kimi Raikkonen, Kevin Magnussen, Pastor Maldonado, Sergio Perez and Daniil Kvyat complete the top 10.

Red Bull team Principal Christian Horner says the team won’t be able to get Sebastian Vettel out before the end of the session. The reigning world champion managed just four laps with a best time of 1:30.942, well enough for 20th overall.
