Alonso sets the top pace in first practice for Chinese GP

659-OUavU.AuSt.55Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso set top fastest lap through the Friday morning’s opening free practice session for the Chinese Grand Prix.

The Spaniard set a best time of 1:39.783 ahead of Mercedes speedy Nico Rosberg by just under four tenths and Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo.

Kimi Raikkonen was the only driver not to set a timed lap due to a technical issue, while Vergne had the most productive morning with 26 laps under his belt.

Hamilton was eighth-fastest in Friday’s practice, just ahead of four-time defending world champion Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull in ninth.

Ferrari’s Spaniard, who assess several front wings, continues to lead the first of the last quarter of an hour session, but saw their lead diminish over time Rosberg, now at 4/10.
