Alexander Rossi Tops Day One in Bahrain

(Caterham) Alexander Rossi stamped his authority on the first day of Official GP2 testing in Bahrain, posting the fastest time of the day with a 1:40.604 during the afternoon session while Rio Haryanto worked on a different plan, choosing to save new tyres for the second and third days and complete more used tyre runs.

Alexander Rossi Tops Day One in BahrainAlexander Rossi “Topping the times on day one in Bahrain is a really positive start to this test and has given us all a boost.

“The three day test in Abu Dhabi left us with a list of things that we wanted to cover here in Bahrain and we were missing a bit of overall lap time on the performance runs which we seem to have resolved.

“This morning I was slightly compromised with a small braking issue that was quickly fixed and moving into this afternoon it was clear that we had good pace and found a sweet spot on the prime tyres.

“With two more days to go and the option tyres to run it will be a busy test for the team.”

Rio Haryanto “Sakhir is a challenging track and one that I enjoy because of the high speed corners.

“This morning I felt very comfortable in the car and we found some improvements on the hard tyres. In the second session I just used one set of tyres as I wanted to make sure I had plenty for the next few days.

“For the race weekend we will be qualifying in the evening and as we can’t test at that time of day we need to see how the option tyre performs as late as possible, which is something we will look at on days two and three.

“Overall I am pleased with how our day went today.”
