FIA approved qualifying tweaks for 2014 F1

formula-1-2014-test-bahrein-2-day-2-31891Finally Formula 1 governing body approved qualifying tweaks for 2014 season.

F1 team bosses met with the FIA during the final pre-season test in Bahrain to talk about potential upgrading to Q3, with tyre-saving a common incidence in the final qualifying session last season.

Q3 makers now are given an additional set of Pirelli’s selection tyre, which must be returned at the end of the session. These drivers will start the race on the tyres they set their best times on in Q2.

Also the Q3 being extended from 10 minutes to 12 and Q1 has been shortened from 20 minutes to 18

The new time schedule gives opportunity to drivers can complete an extra run during the final session, further rising on-track movement.
