Susie Wolff named as official ambassador for Australian F1 Grand Prix

_W2Q9214-res_0The Australian Grand Prix Corporation is thrilled to announce that Williams F1 Team development driver, Susie Wolff, will be a guest at the 2014 Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix as an Official Ambassador.

The Scottish driver will be trackside at Albert Park throughout the week to soak up all the Formula One action and to attend various events, including the exclusive GP@23 Party at Crown Casino and the Official Grand Prix Breakfast function.

More at home in a race suit than on a red carpet, Wolff, who is also a Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) Women in Motorsport Ambassador, will spend much of the weekend in the Williams F1 Team garage, as her teammates prepare for the much anticipated first race of the 2014 season.

“I am proud to be an Official Ambassador of the Australian Grand Prix, it is such a fantastic event. As it’s the season opener, you never know what is going to happen. There is a lot of anticipation amongst all the teams and fans and I’m looking forward to starting the season in Melbourne,” Wolff said.

It was recently announced that Wolff will continue as development driver for the Williams F1 Team in 2014, where she will become the first female in two decades to compete in a Formula One Grand Prix session. As part of her renewed contract, Wolff will take over the driving duties from Williams’ regular drivers in two Free Practice 1 sessions throughout the year.

Winning the coveted British Racing Drivers’ Club Rising Star award at just 22 years of age, and driving for Mercedes-Benz in the DTM Championship, Wolff is no stranger to on-track success, and today is one of the most recognisable women in a sport traditionally dominated by men.

In 2012 Wolff was appointed as the Williams F1 Team Development Driver, making her Formula One debut during a test session at Silverstone in the very same year.

In July last year, she made an impressive first appearance in a full test during the Formula One Young Driver Test.

Australian Grand Prix Corporation Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Westacott, is looking forward to welcoming Wolff to Melbourne for the 2014 Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix.

“Susie is simply fantastic for motorsport – not only is she an inspiration to young women across the globe that are trying to make their mark on the sport, but she gives the men a run for their money too,” Westacott said. (
