McLaren speedy Sergio Perez two times struggled following the tyre failure during the British Grand Prix weekend, initially in third free practice and second one in main race, following the ‘serious’ situation McLaren team Principal Martin Whitmarsh says that need urgent decision over tyre failure.
Even though meetings are planned for this week – FIA has called on Pirelli to find a solution to its tyre failure before a meeting of the Formula One’s Sporting Working Group on Wednesday in order to stay away from a show again of the trouble seen at the British Grand Prix weekend.
“We clearly have a serious situation where we have to act responsibly, and respect Pirelli, They have to do the best they can. We have to make a decision urgently, as it gives you a much better chance than talking about it on Wednesday when you want to drive out of the garage Friday.” said Whitmarsh.
“In 2012 we were not having this problem,” he said. “Therefore, if that is a known, established, durable specification, you would have thought that is the easiest thing to do.”
Ferrari team Principal Stefano Domenicali is also need find a solution over the tyre issue and he added that Silverstone being a track that is very demanding with the tyres in terms of stress.
“It’s something we have to work together as F1 to find a position, I had an idea that we need to discuss over the next days that we have a test here in Silverstone with the young drivers that, with Silverstone being a track that is very demanding with the tyres in terms of stress, should be ready to do something to try to solve this issue and I would also say we should do it with the racing drivers.” Ferrari team Principal Stefano Domenicali said
“It is something that is very important so I can guarantee to you that from a team point of view we are very open to find a solution. We will all benefit from a solution.”
Lotus team Principal Eric Boullier also wants to find out what is causing tyre failures: “Going back to the Kevlar belt from last year would be one solution.
“I don’t know what they have in stock and how quick they can produce tyres. That is a question for Pirelli. It is a different track lay-out next weekend and first we need to find out what is causing these failures. But it is a concern.”
Red Bull team Principal Christian Horner says that most logical solution go back to the tyres last season specification.
“The most logical thing would be to go back to the tyres that worked well for them previously, the tyres they had last year did not have these failures.” Horner explained
“They need to find a solution, and they need to address it. Whether they go back to last year’s car or a different tyre they need a solution.”
