Red Bull concerned by Mercedes aggressive pre-season form

Mercedes guys showed inspiring performance in final pre-season test at Barcelona. Especially new recruit Lewis Hamilton and his team-mate Nico Rosberg. The duo set over a second faster than the time he posted in a McLaren to earn pole in last season’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso set second fastest lap-time, and also he was only other rival proficient of beating Mercedes recruit Hamilton’s Saturday blistering pace.

Talk about the threat Hamilton and Mercedes pose to the dominance that Red Bull and triple world champion Sebastian Vettel have enjoyed in recent years, Red Bull’s team principal Horner admitted: ‘Mercedes have recorded some head-turning times in the programme they have been operating.

‘Their car has looked quick and with Lewis joining the team, they have taken a step forward. He is worth lap times and that’s why they have signed him. Lewis is a world-class driver and is going to raise their level. They will be a factor this season.’

‘We have won three double world titles now and they are in the history books. It proves we are not a flash in the pan. The pressure is off in certain respects, but in other ways we put pressure on ourselves to keep the roll going that we have been on over the last few years.’ Horner added

‘There is a real determination in this team to keep this run of success going and to do our best to defend these titles.’

The youngest triple time world champion Sebastian Vettel also concerned by Brackley-based team pre-season performance.

Speaking to his official website, Vettel said: ‘I finally took the chance to watch some of the other teams for a bit.

‘Nico Rosberg had a great final day of testing in his Mercedes, which shows how dangerous he and Lewis Hamilton will be in the future.’
