Mercedes setting a spectacular time in final pre-season Formula 1 test at Barcelona, Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton set over a second faster than the time he posted in a McLaren to earn pole in last season’s Spanish Grand Prix.
In the penultimate day of final pre-season test Lewis Hamilton ended up fastest with a 1m20.558s, Nico Rosberg set fastest with 1m20.130s in final of testing.
Hamilton claims that the pressure is on his rivals to perform in the coming campaign and claimed any heroics he manages to attain will simply be a bonus given how much ground Mercedes have to make up.
‘If you’re car’s good here it should be good at a lot of places throughout the year,’ said the 2008 world champion.
‘Mercedes are doing a great job, both with the engine and the car. It’s obviously a lot better than it was last year. I think we will definitely be able to win a race at some point in the season.’
‘I don’t feel any expectation,’ said Hamilton with the season opener in Australia just two weeks away. ‘If anything I feel like I’ve got a free ticket. It’s a year where we know we may not have the best package. But it’s a challenge for me. That’s for me to enjoy.
‘It’s not pressure from outside. The pressure is on all the other guys who have great cars which have evolved into this year’s car. The pressure is on them to compete and perform. As for us, we only have everything to gain.’
