Sergio Perez attended at McLaren base on Wednesday January 9th, and the Mexican says during the first press meet, he target on adding his name to their list of world champions.
The Mexican believes that McLaren is capable of moving ahead in 2013, last year McLaren made a good start but they can’t keep the form in entire season.
Q: McLaren did have problems with mechanical failure and reliability last season. Is that something that concerns you going forward?
Sergio Perez: “I think this team is capable of moving ahead and we’ve seen in previous years when in testing they are so far away and then they come into the first race, and they qualify onto the front row. So I think this is a team that really can deliver from day to night (overnight) something very special and I think this team is so special and so motivated to win that I’m not worried at all.”
“Obviously it is to win, my expectation and my target is to victory. When you come into McLaren, that has to be your target and that’s why I’ve come to McLaren. To win and hopefully we can succeed.” Perez said
Q: You’re replacing Lewis Hamilton at McLaren. Is it a bigger challenge for you when you consider the names that have raced here before?
Perez: “It makes me feel great. Because you are coming in today to the best team in Formula one and not only are you replacing one of the best drivers in the world, you have here the cars of the best drivers in history. So it’s incredible to be able to come here and to be able to drive for this team. It’s a very nice feeling.”
Q: Your team mate here will be another former World Champion, Jenson Button. Are you looking forward to linking up with him?
Perez: “I think it will be very good, I think I have a lot to learn from him. He’s an incredible driver. One of the fastest drivers in the world and a very clever driver as well. So it will be very nice for me to learn from a champion, to have a team mate which (who) is a world champion will be very special and obviously to work together with him and the target is to beat him and all the other drivers.”
