F1 need more races in United States – Ecclestone

Formula 1 commercial right holder Bernie Ecclestone says that the sports need more races in America and he added that Formula One should have the same number of races like European territory.

Following the five season absence, US return to Formula 1 world championship calendar with brand new Circuit of the Americas in Austin at Texas.

“It’s a World Championship, so you need the us, America is about as big as Europe. So we should have the same number of races (in each),” Ecclestone is quoted by German news agency DPA.

Other than F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone admits that his sport is “not very big” in America, reasoning the USA accept Mario Andretti to proclaim: “I can only say thank God for the Texans!”

McLaren team Principal Martin Whitmarsh also said that new Formula 1 Grand Prix can succeed over United States audience.

“North American sport focuses significantly on entertainment and Formula 1 over the years has probably not placed enough emphasis on that.” said Whitmarsh in an interview for the Australian GP podcast.

“Now, if you look at the last few championships, you’ve got a lack of predictability. Things like DRS, which the purists would never have accepted in yesteryear, was a right and appropriate concession to be made to the spectacle. Formula 1 is much more unpredictable and, as a consequence, much more entertaining than it was only a couple of years ago. We’re not going to go quite as far as World Wrestling Federation-style sport…” McLaren boss added.
