Valsecchi top fastest in final day of Abu Dhabi Young Driver Test

Lotus speedy Davide Valsecchi posted quickest lap-time on final day of Formula One Young Driver Test at Abu Dhabi.

The Italian set quickest lap-time of 1m42.677s, the sessions first time just 0.002 seconds ahead of Antonio Felix da Costa’s best overall time for Red Bull. Also this was + 0.150 seconds faster than Kevin Magnussen of McLaren.

Kevin Magnussen was second fastest lap-time of 1m42.827s for McLaren. He was set his best time in opening day of testing; McLaren is also pleased with younger Magnussen’s performance.

“His pace, consistency and engineering feedback were all excellent,” McLaren sporting director Sam Michael said.

“Given his performance, he certainly didn’t look like a guy who had never turned a wheel in a modern F1 car before the start of this week.”

Esteban Gutierrez posted third fastest lap-time ahead of Red Bull’s Robin Frijns, Gutierrez also successively completed 80 laps

“I think today’s programme was very useful. Not only for me, but also for the team because we were able to test and analyze a lot of different things. I tried to give precise feedback over the day and in the end I was pushing a bit with the soft tyres, but I must admit I didn’t manage to make use of the peak of the tyres’ performance.” Gutierrez said.

“Nevertheless I am very happy with how the two days of testing went and I want to thank the Sauber F1 Team for all its work.” The Mexican added.

Oliver Turvey set fifth fastest ahead of Toro Rosso’s Luiz Razia. American speedy Alexander Rossi was slowest for Caterham; he struggled with to oil leak.

Following the session the American said that – “after my 14th run there was oil on the garage floor so the engineers had to call the session over.”
