Charles Pic get ten-place grid penalty for Engine-change

Charles Pic is the first man in this season to receive a ten-place grid penalty for having an engine change. He moves onto his ninth engine of the season, Drivers are limited to eight engines per season.

Pic possibility will start at the back of the grid for Korean Grand Prix Sunday race, Marussia team principal John Booth says that that the Frenchman will be getting his ninth engine ahead of Saturday’s final practice.

“It is also appropriate at this stage to say that we plan to fit a new engine to Charles’ car this evening in the knowledge that, as his ninth engine of the season, we will incur a 10-place grid penalty on Sunday,” said Booth.

FIA regulations state that there are also restrictions on engine and gearbox use. Each driver may use no more than eight engines during a championship season. Should a driver use more than eight engines, he will drop 10 places on the starting grid of the event at which an additional unit is to be used.

Each driver may use no more than one gearbox for five consecutive events. Every unscheduled gearbox change will require the driver to drop five places on the grid at that meeting. Every subsequent unscheduled gearbox change will require the driver to drop five places on the grid.
