Mercedes AMG will run with new upgraded Coanda-exhausts in upcoming race weekend at Singapore, Magny-Cours’s young drivers test proved the new exhausts performance with Mercedes W03.
The same exhaust package used their main rivals Ferrari, McLaren, and Sauber. Mercedes young drivers Sam Bird and Brendon Hartley successfully covered over 1,000km in Magny-Cours’s test with upgraded exhaust.
Recently Mercedes decided to use this exhaust layout in both cars for Singapore GP. Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg will compete in Singapore Friday practice with new exhaust layout.
Mercedes Team principal Ross Brawn told Autosport, advantages about the new upgraded Coanda-exhausts, its improves exhaust and airflow to the floor of the car, especially felt on the type of low speed corners that are so common in Singapore.
“We think that’s quite significant in low speed traction,” he said about where the speed was improved with the Coanda exhausts.
“The effect of the exhaust is more significant at lower speeds than higher speeds, and also brings you the balance perhaps you need for the rear tyre.”
Mercedes AMG also assessed Lotus-style DDRS (Double Drag Reduction System) through the test, but this isn’t likely to be seen at Singapore as the device offers little advantage due to the sole track design.
