Once again McLaren’s Jenson Button disappointed with qualifying performance. Today he was struggled too in rain interrupted Q1 first session, after he was fitted with new tyre and performing well in sector 1 and 2, but final sector yellow flag cost his flying lap.
Button says front tyre issue cost his qualifying and he added that I was hitting the brakes, weaving, but I couldn’t get heat in the fronts.
“Yellows, but also it got wet in the last sector, but nowhere else,” Button told BBC Sport.
“I was 1.7 seconds up on my dash compared to my previous lap, not only would have improved a lot but it would have put us quickest.”
“It’s a pity but it definitely wasnt meant to be. The good thing is these guys are running round for two more sessions on their tyres and it’s going to rain tomorrow. It will be a very difficult race from back in 18th but maybe I’ll have better tyres.”
McLaren speedy said that the tyre situation was much improved on his second set, as he was clever to drive straight out of the pit lane lacking queuing at the back his rivals.
“I couldn’t get heat in the front tyres, I felt that straight away with shuddering,” he began. “I was hitting the brakes, weaving, but I couldn’t get heat in the fronts.
“But at the end, when we put the new tyres on from the blankets and without queuing there was loads of grip, we just couldn’t use it. I’d rather put on a much better show for the fans on Saturday, it’s the story of my year not getting heat in the fronts.”
