F1 British Grand Prix Facts and Figures

(Moneysupermarket) Silverstone hosted the first ever Formula One race back in 1950. The old army airfield has been much improved over the years and is of course still the home of the British Grand Prix 62 years later. But did you know that it has shared the British GP title with three other venues? One of which was Aintree in Liverpool.

Unlike Wimbledon, the British Grand Prix is one event where success has not eluded our home-grown sporting heroes. In fact British drivers have had more than four times as many wins at the race as the Germans who have been the next most successful nation over the course of the events history. The most prolific British winners are Scotland’s Jim Clark and Nigel Mansell who captured the spirit of the home fans in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
