Hamilton will give evidence in Sutil trial

Lewis Hamilton confirmed it has been called to give evidence in Adrian Sutil’s trial, German will be heard by a court following an incident after last year’s Chinese GP.

Adrian Sutil will stand for trial in 30 and 31 January in Munich District Court on a charge of aggravated assault. While in a Shanghai nightclub on 17 April 2011, he purportedly stabbed Luxembourgian entrepreneur and founding partner of Genii Capital, co-owner of the Lotus Renault GP F1 team in the neck with a broken glass.

While Luxembourgian received 24 stitches and is sure that the incident was deliberate, Sutil has stated that he meant to throw only a drink and not its glass. As Hamilton – a close friend of Sutil – was present in the club at the time of the incidence, the McLaren driver has been asked to share his side of the story.

“The first day Lewis Hamilton is being called as a witness,” court spokeswoman Ingrid Kaps told the Hamburger Morgenpost newspaper.

“This is a mandatory appearance.”
