Sept.19 – New Silverstone Wing now short-listed for a prestigious global award recognising the most excellent new structural design in the world. New pit building and paddock compound. If the construction proves victorious at the awards ceremony, the Silverstone Wing will be given the title World Building of the Year 2011, having fought against new structure from some 59 other countries.
“It has already become a pioneering landmark and a symbol of Silverstone,” says John Barrow of Populous, the architects who designed the Wing. “We’re very proud to have improved one of the greatest circuits in the world and the home of British motor racing.”
Silverstone Wing has also been nominated for the awards’ sports category, challenging against eight other sports expansion including the Al Shaqab Equestrian Arena in Qatar and Milson Island Sport Centre in Australia. Judging for the World Architecture Festival will be staged in Barcelona through the first week of November.
