Sept.11 – The Championship leader Sebastian Vettel says it was his special win at Spa, Vettel repeating his wins of 2008. Following being renovated by Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso at the start.
“It was very emotional,” Vettel explained in the post-race press conference. “This circuit means a lot to me, it has been very special, obviously my first win was here so when I crossed the line I remembered every single bit. The podium is unbelievable, when you stand up there you feel so blessed because it doesn’t happen to many people. There are so many people underneath, coming all the way from Curve Grande and it’s filled with people, it’s just unbelievable. The circuit has been tough for us to be really competitive in the past two years, but we’ve come back this year the car was really amazing in qualifying yesterday and in the race even better.
“The start wasn’t that good, with Fernando I didn’t know where he was coming from. It took me a while to understand that we were actually three alongside going into Turn 1, so I kept second and then after the restart I was able to pass him. He didn’t give me much room there, I was halfway on the grass but it was just enough!. It was very enjoyable and after that, as I said, the car was fantastic. It was a great race for us and a very special win, 150 years of Italy makes it special for all of the people here as well, so thanks to all of the fans. Obviously last time (in 2008), the Italian people were cheering a bit more, but still it’s very special for me to be at that place here again.”
