Sept.04 – Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone replied the leading Liberal Dem MP Foster’s letter, recently he wrote a letter to Ecclestone about the new deals of switch F1 from the BBC to Sky in UK broadcasting.
Bernie responds: He was “not realistic” following being challenged for switching most grand prix coverage to Sky.
New broadcasting contract from next season means the BBC will show only 10 grand prix live, half the championship, while Sky will broadcast the whole series but on their subscription-only sports channel.
The deal is believed to be worth £45million per year.
F1 supreme said the move was forced on the BBC because of financial prudence. But MP Don Foster quoted him as saying: “The BBC brought Sky to us with the idea of a joint contract. It was not us who made that decision.”
He then told him: “I am alarmed that there is such a gulf between your stories.”
Last night Bernie told Daily Express: “It is not realistic; he clearly does not understand the situation. We would have loved to have stayed with the BBC but they could guarantee nothing.”
