June.25 – 2008 world champion Lewis Hamilton explained after qualifying, he ‘got a bit greedy’ through his last Q3 lap at the Valencia, prompting an early return to the pit-lane. Nevertheless, the McLaren driver will start tomorrow from third place on grid, his best grid slot since the Spanish GP last month.
“I think we weren’t really expecting to be that high up, at least I wasn’t,” Hamilton explained after qualifying. I think after P3 we were struggling a bit trying to switch the tyres on, but the guys did a great job on analysing some of the data that we had from there to improve into qualifying. So a fantastic job by the guys, I think the lap wasn’t too bad.
“I tried to improve on the last lap, but you always try to get a bit more and I guess I got a bit greedy. We just bailed out on the last lap and hopefully saved out tyres for the race.”
