Forget the podium; we’re just not strong enough for that – Schumacher

June.24 – Seven times world champion Michael Schumacher thinks that Mercedes has no possibility of scoring a podium result at this weekend’s European GP, despite finishing Friday’s second practice session in fourth position. The seven-time Champion, who finished in the same place in the Canadian Grand Prix, sees Ferrari and McLaren as large threats to Red Bull.

“Forget the podium, we’re just not strong enough for that,” the Mercedes driver commented. “The Ferraris are very strong and we are also behind the McLarens and Red Bulls. If we’re lucky, we might just catch one of those two, but we’d have to be lucky – I don’t think that the pace is good enough. Being fast on one lap is one thing, but it all depends on how clean the other guys’ laps were. The other question is long-run performance, because we usually drop off a bit with that.”
