June.21 – The Ferrari speedy Fernando Alonso is optimistic that Ferrari will get a better chance for its opening victory of the season at European GP on this weekend. After seven races have finished 2011 battle start from Australia, the Ferrari driver has picked up podium results in Turkey and Monaco, but is yet to win on the streets of Valencia.
“It seems that, in general so far this season, luck has not come our way,” Alonso wrote in his latest blog on the Ferrari website. “In the race in Montreal, not one damned thing went right. I know that our fans are eagerly awaiting our first win of the season and I can assure you that the same goes for us. At the last two races, we showed we were clearly capable of winning and, especially in Monaco, we came pretty close, although I believe that even in Canada I could have fought for it all the way to the end, given what we had seen in qualifying.
“Now we go to a track with reasonably similar characteristics to Montreal and there is no obvious reason why we should not be competitive here too. Actually, I have already won the European Grand Prix twice, when the race was run at the Nürburgring; as the saying goes, ‘Never two without three…’”
Following retiring from the initial Valencia race on the first lap in 2008, Alonso drove his Renault to sixth in 2009 and finished a highly disappointing eighth for Ferrari last year, furious that former team-mate Lewis Hamilton had overtaken the Safety Car.
