Feb.08 – HRT has published the first photos of its second F1 car, the brand-new F111. In 2011, the Murcia squad is designing its own chassis from scratch, having been in a affiliation with Italian designers Dallara last year. At present, only India’s Narain Karthikeyan is confirmed as part of its driver line-up. The new-look HRT is literally something out of Hollywood, with the livery having been thought up by concept designer Daniel Simon.
Not only is Simon author of design book Cosmic Motors, but the German has also worked alongside director Ridley Scott for works such as TRON: Legacy; he has now been allocated the job of creating ‘a dynamic new corporate image’ for the team.
The end product sees Hispania’s Spanish flag of 2010 traded in for a chequered flag in 2011, with the car signed by Simon on its turning vanes – located in front of the sidepods.
“I miss fearless visual statements and large beautiful numbers on today´s racing cars,” he commented. “Playing with the restrictions of what you can do to a complex F1 body is fun. There are many don’ts, but I found a way to lay courageous racing essence on the car.”
