Fernando believes that his confused year at McLaren in 2007, stressed for superiority with Lewis Hamilton, has equipped him well for the challenges he will face at his new team. It was very hard but I learnt a lot myself. It was good for my career to take that step of joining them McLaren and increasing up. I learnt how to work with a team and also to withstand the media force. The difficulties I had were coming from the team and the media. Fernando has not at all been distant from the controversy that has hit the sport in recent years. In 2007 he gave in order to the FIA about the Spygate affair, which lead to McLaren being fined $100m and excluded from that year’s championship. He also, unwittingly, benefited from collapse gate, winning the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix after gaining an advantage from the safety car deployed after Nelson Piquet Jnr’s accident. He is title into the 2010 season with assurance, and recently claimed that the Ferrari F10 is the best car he has ever driven. I knew 2009 year I was only struggle for seventh or eighth but it was important to learn from that. I have no doubt I am a better driver at present.
